I’ve always been ambitious. Like anyone sure about their career pathway in the corporate world, I worked hard because I believed that the sacrifice would be worth it in the end.

But I was exhausted and stuck. Annoyed for having been led a merry dance to the top and then doubly irritated for feeling so ungrateful when I got there.

I was conflicted, doing things I didn’t agree with to keep the peace and tired of protecting my team from a toxic culture. In the struggle, I lost sight of my ambitions along with my confidence in achieving them.

Token box-ticking equality and wellbeing gestures added insult to injury as I managed the symptoms of trauma all around me and fought against casual sexism so ingrained most people didn’t even notice it. I was burnt out, felt out of control and couldn’t think straight most days, let alone work out my exit plan or how to get to the next rung on the career ladder.

I’d grown tired, bone-deep tired of all the bullshit.

So if this is you, I hear you. I see you. I’ve been there.

Now as a qualified coach, I join forces with ambitious women in leadership roles who aren’t ready to throw in the towel but know something has to change. Yes, they are tired, frustrated and disillusioned with the world of work and how much it has taken from them. 

But deep down there is a knowing, a quiet whisper that keeps them thinking that things could be different – better in fact. A knowing that sees the system wasn’t built for them and instead, they are ready to create a new version of success and leadership. One that is authentic, powerful and true to who they really are.

Corporate may have got close to extinguishing your flame but in defiance, you can burn brighter. I live my belief that we unlock so much more when talent and passion aren’t squashed by fear, dominance and ‘the way that things have always been done around here’.
